Last week I went to a Kundalini Yoga based class on Manifesting. I’m not usually a Kundalini person, although I can see the incredible power of it. To me, it seems to have an air of aloofness that doesn’t work for me. I’ve taken classes here and there and find myself more times than not in judgement of the syrupy singing, that strange spacey “cosmic” vibe and the odd and repetitive movements combined with breathing that makes me feel like passing out. I remember going to a class at Golden Bridge in Hollywood and wanting to punch someone half way through…I guess it brought up a lot of my anger…but I digress. I do believe it can be incredibly powerful and healing; I’ve heard countless people say it’s changed their lives and I was super on board with the topic, so I decided to go with an open mind and heart. I’m happy I went for it!
Firstly, let me say I believe in power of manifestation. I believe we are creating our future every moment right here in the present, with our thoughts, our attitudes and our attention. I have seen, time after time, things come to fruition as I (or someone I love) has consistently applied their unwavering and loving focus toward it. It takes patience and trust because it happens in “God’s time”, as they say – which incidentally is a LOT slower than I ever EVER think is reasonable. But I know that with consciously chosen and persistent attention, we can attract the things we desire into our lives.
The class was divided into three parts. For each part, we were given a wonderful organic tincture of aromatherapy essential oils. The teacher, Hari, placed some drops in the palm of our hands and told us to rub them together and then hold the hands over our mouth and noses and breath in deeply. The first focus was centered around gratitude. Hari said she had a message come to her as she was meditating on how to put the class together that gratitude was the starting place. This resonated with me. I have been hearing a lot lately about gratitude; that it is the corner stone to success, wellness, happiness & manifestation. It is one of the highest vibrations we can be tuned into. According to the Law of Attraction, we attract that which we vibrate and give out. Personally I know my life has gotten steadily better as I became present to and thankful for all the blessings in my life. It is easy to see what’s not there, but tune into what is already there-the myriad of blessings we each receive on a daily basis- and those things will most certainly accumulate and grow.
The second section of class was devoted to release. Releasing that which holds us back, that which we are holding on to. Release of the past. Any obstacles, real or perceived, that have been in your experience. Lots of fiery breath work here. Very aggressive and powerful repetitive movements with deep intense breath work. Hari kept saying to go into it instead of retreating from it, as I felt myself wanting to do. It’s only 3 minutes per exercise; just go for it! Go into the pain, the anger, the hurt, the frustration or whatever it is that holds you back and blocks your way.
The last section was on empowerment. Hari asked us to focus on our own power, the God force in ourselves. She said that, particularly in our culture, we are asked to downplay this absolute divine power that each of us holds. She asked us to get in touch with that power, to believe in it, to resonate with it and invite it to live out loud. This section also included a guided visualization where we met our manifestation and looked at it through the prism of color and energy. She asked us to play out the scene in our minds eye, to notice any images that came to mind, and to let our minds wander through all different parts of the dream being realized. She asked us to then take a closer look at the complete manifestation of our desire. She asked us to identify it’s color. Where does it live within in your body? Stay with it. Let it speak to you. I was interested to find out that mine is orange with purple swirls. It lives in my second chakra, my emotional and creative body. She asked us to identify what it might be saying to us…mine said in no uncertain terms that it’s very origins are fun and joy. No matter what, it said to me, the manifestation of my dreams is rooted there.
Wow. This new information has continued to inform my thoughts and actions this week. So, it’s not about working hard or holding on tight or any of those other things I tend to do…it’s just about fun and joy? Well, I can do that. It reminds me to approach life with the spirit and energy of a child. I am doing exactly what I love to do. Be grateful. Release the past. Celebrate my power. Be joyous. And by all means…have fun! Let the manifestation begin.
