Today is the last day of March! Is tomorrow really the start of the second quarter? It’s been a super busy, good-feeling month. VO has really picked up steam and I’ve been blessed with gigs from new clients, old clients and a bunch of residual checks rolling in, completely unexpectedly! Gotta love that. Seriously it’s like – Oh! This is what it’s supposed to be like!
One of the new clients I’ve been working with has been using me regularly for some super fun (lickety-split!) high-energy retail reads, which is always a hoot to me. With conversational reads still reigning, we don’t often get to go into announcer-mode much anymore and just let ‘er rip. It’s a blast; no thought of: is that believable? Just get on the train and ride; scream and shout and sell some sh*t!
I’ve also been busy with a bunch of audiobooks. This week I’ve been up at Penguin Random House. It’s SO much fun to be up there recording; quite a different feel from my usual self-record scene. It’s fun to see other actors (other people, in general!) and having a director is just, well…what a luxury! Up there it’s interesting because they don’t do a punch and roll. You just stop when you make a mistake and go again. So cushy! The first day I had to stop myself from feeling guilty about the editor who will have to sift through it all.
Around the house, Joe and I have been focused on landscaping. We’ve been planting a ton of things, which seems very metaphorical. We have no idea what will “take” but our intention is to grow. On Easter Sunday we spent the day planting in pots for our front porch. It really makes a difference to have some prettiness to greet you as you come and go; I hope I can keep them alive!
Well, on that note I need to go finish watching The People Vs. OJ Simpson. Have you been watching that? It’s really well done. The acting is stellar and it’s so interesting (and maddening!) to see all aspects of the trial and what went down. We also just finished Baskets, which is brilliant. So arty and laugh out loud funny and weird and good looking and wonderful! Way to go, FX; it seems like you’re trusting artists to make great art. I love that.
Ah, it feels good to write. I need to prioritize it more. It’s like a breath of fresh air.
Until next time!
